Scope of the Conference

The MT29 Conference is the most important international forum addressing all aspects of magnet research, development, manufacturing, testing, and operation.

The objective of the conference is to provide a forum for the exchange of coil and magnet related technology as well as design and analysis techniques, to diffuse in the scientific community new applications for coils and magnets, to provide an exchange between research activities and industrial applications, and to encourage professional scientists and engineers to follow careers in magnet technology and its applications.

The subject of the conference is the technology associated with the design, construction test or operation of coils and magnets. Coils can be part of devices for power, energy, transport, healthcare, high-energy physics and other applications. Magnets for generating magnetic field can either be of an electro-magnetic nature comprising turns of a current carrying conductor or be of a permanent magnetic material. In all cases the abstract/manuscript should concentrate on the details of the coil/magnet being described.

The scope includes magnet related material development, and magnet design/construction/operation related enabling technologies. It includes magnet design and analysis, cooling and power technology, instrumentation and measurement techniques, testing and operational experience.

  • Publications related to magnet-supporting technologies must contain sufficient description of the magnet device itself or address specific issues of the interfaces of the magnet unit or component with the rest of the system, or a description of the uniqueness of a magnet or its component for the particular system application.
  • Generic studies of non-magnet technologies, systems or devices that fail to incorporate at least one of the criteria above will not be accepted for presentation at the conference.

Acceptance of an abstract and presentation at MT29 does not guarantee acceptance of a submitted manuscript based on that presentation. Material only peripherally related to magnet technology may be acceptable for presentation but may be out of scope for the special issue of IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity (IEEE TAS).

The manuscript submitted to the IEEE TAS MT29 special issue must correspond to the material presented at the conference, which in turn must correspond to the accepted abstract. Deviations from the accepted topic are grounds for manuscript rejection unless previously approved by the Program Chair or the Guest Editor.

    General Information

    • Add “mt@centennialconferences.com” to your address book to ensure that future correspondence is received.
    • Only abstracts submitted via the MT29 abstract submission site will be considered.
    • After successful abstract submission, a confirmation email will be sent to you. If you do not receive this confirmation email, it may be that your abstract was not saved. In that case, please log into your account to verify that your abstract has been successfully submitted. Click here for an image that illustrates how to check your submitted abstract.
    • Abstracts will be reviewed by the MT29 Program Commitee who reserves the right to change the type of presentation from that preferred by the author to accommodate limitations on meeting space and other constraints.
    • All abstracts submitted are disclosed to members of the MT29 program committee and conference management. Abstracts accepted for presentation are made available publicly with launching the full conference program prior to the Conference.
    • Submitting author email addresses will be added to the MT29 email list (if not already on the list) to ensure that conference announcements are received.
    • All authors identified as speaker/presenting author on the submitted abstract must register for the conference and be present in Boston.
    • Notice of acceptance for inclusion in the MT29 Program will be sent electronically to all authors on March 12, 2025.
    • The abstract submission and acceptance notification will be sent to the submitting author as well as all co-authors. All future notifications regarding the presentation will be sent to the presenting author/speaker only.
    • All presenters are required to upload an electronic copy of their talk or poster in PDF format prior to their presentation at the scheduled MT29 session.
      • By participating at MT29 and submitting your presentation, you implicitly agree to publish the content of your presentation on the public Indico site.
      • Oral presenters are required to submit a copy of their talk to the Speaker Preparation Room at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport one day prior to their scheduled talk. If the presentation is not already available in Indico the presentation file loaded to the session room will also be uploaded into Indico unless another preferred presentation file is presented to the staff in the Speaker Preparation Room.
      • If presenters of poster presentations need help with the file upload process, please see the staff in the Speaker Preparation Room also.
    • Presentation is a requirement for a submitted paper to be considered for peer review. This includes presentations in oral or poster format. The presentation should be given at the appointed time in the program, by the designated author or co-author (presenter). Only papers based on material presented in an oral presentation or on a poster will be considered for publication. For posters, the word “presented” means that the presenting author must be present during the entire session and available for discussion. Simply posting an enlarged version of paper is not considered as a presentation. The abstract submitter will become the contact author for the paper submission unless a request for contact author change was made. Paper submission is not required.
    • Conference presenters are requested to review manuscripts submitted to the MT29 Special IEEE TAS issue.
    • The ID assigned to a submitted abstract is the primary means of identifying an abstract until the program is formed. Please use the abstract ID in any correspondence concerning abstracts until a program number has been issued.

    Visa Information

    • Conference participants should familiarize themselves with visa requirements well in advance of the conferences. Please apply for your visa as early as possible, at least 3 to 4 months prior to this conference.
    • We strongly recommend early abstract submission if a visa is required to attend the conference. If the abstract is submitted on or before December 15, 2024, and marked as “visa required”, the abstract will be promptly reviewed by the Program Committee. If the abstract is accepted, a conference invitation will be emailed to the author by January 10, 2025, thus providing the author more time to obtain a visa for the USA.
    • Initial letters of invitation to attend the conference will only be provided to the submitting/presenting author of the accepted abstract and/or registered and paid attendees and exhibitors. The letter does not imply financial support from the conference.  Co-authors needing a letter of invitation must submit their request to mt@centennialconferences.com
    • Letters will be emailed. A hard copy can be mailed via regular airmail if requested. Any fees for sending letters via express mail must be paid by the requester.
    • MT29 CANNOT INTERVENE with U.S. Embassies abroad or the State Department on behalf of any participant.
    • Additional information can be found here
